Contest Quick-Sketch: My Lunchbag

Had to go quick today – I did my sketch at contest, and I only had about 20 minutes before I had to meet students again to warm up their group improv.

I’ve done worse. I’ve done better, and I’m not super pleased with how it turned out.

The patterning looks stupid. The zipper is…I don’t know if there’s even a word for that. The overall shape is OK but the handle doesn’t look quite right.

Next week I’m thinking of continuing this “draw from life” thing but going abstract – drawing the shapes/outlines without the realism. I’m pretty sure it’s going to look ridiculous, but it might help me get a handle on seeing shapes in real life objects. Right now, I’m having a hard time doing that, though I am capable if using a drawing or a photo as a model.

I'm a humble little Anglophile with obscure talents.
